Landlord Electrical Safety Checks

The rental provider must ensure an electrical safety check of all electrical installations, fittings and appliances provided by a rental provider in the rented premises is conducted every 2 years by a licensed or registered electrician and must provide the renter with the date of the most recent safety check on request of the renter. If an electrical safety check of the rented premises has not been conducted within the last 2 years at the time the renter occupies the premises, the rental provider must arrange an electrical safety check as soon as practicable.

Frequently Asked Landlord Electrical Safety Questions

Why is there such a big difference in the cost of the tests between different companies?

You’ve heard the old saying ‘you get what you pay for’ and this is definitely the case when it comes to electrical work. Simply put, cheap jobs are usually a reflection of cheap work that’s likely non-compliant. At All Electrics, our costs reflect the quality of work, skills and experience of our team and any off-site administrative tasks required for the job.

Is there non-compliant testing being performed in Victoria?

Unfortunately yes – when you consider the hourly rate of a qualified electrician, we would be sceptical of any work completed for less than $400.

What do I do if I suspect my landlord electrical safety inspection test is non-compliant?

We’re here to help! Simply email it to us and one of our qualified team members will review the document at no cost to you.

Is the landlord safety inspections test mandatory?

Yes, please read our blog with the links to the correct documents.

My property manager has a preferred supplier, do I have to use them?

Absolutely not – landlords have the legal right to use any company that will supply a correct and compliant test.

Why use All Electrics?

With years of experience in the industry, our team of qualified A-grade electricians have the skills to tackle big and small jobs that always align with Australian compliance requirements.
