Frequently Asked…
Questions? No problem! Here are the most commonly asked questions we receive about bathroom and bathroom exhaust fan installations. If you still have questions or would like to speak to us, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
-
The average lifespan of a bathroom exhaust fan ranges from 9 to 15 years. However, a lot depends on the quality of the bathroom exhaust, the manufacturer and the way that it gets used. Usually, after ten years, the performance of the bathroom exhaust fans starts declining. There can be multiple reasons for this such as a lack of regular cleaning, an overworked motor and electrical issues.
-
To select an exhaust fan for your bathroom, you need to take into account the area of the bathroom and the frequency that air gets replaced. Bathrooms steam quickly, so it’s good to find an exhaust fan that is able to replace the air 20 times (or more) in an hour. This is represented as cubic metres of air per hour. To find the right exhaust fan, you’d have to calculate how many cubic metres your room is (length x breadth x height). Multiply that figure by 20, and you’ll get an idea about the ideal exhaust fan for your bathroom. Alternatively, you can just enquire with an expert like our team at All Electrics and we’ll take care of all the complex calculations for you to recommend a solution.
-
It’s a good idea to thoroughly clean your bathroom exhaust fan every six months as moisture can penetrate and cause your exhaust fan’s metal to rust. For thorough cleaning, you must remove the vent cover and motor assembly which will allow you to clean any dust and buildup. Bathrooms are used regularly, and the build-up of dirt and moisture can damage the exhaust fan parts, leading to motor burnout in some cases. This hazard can be easily prevented with frequent exhaust fan cleaning. For this, you need a few simple tools like dish soap, a microfibre cloth, sponge, screwdriver, soft-bristled brush, stepladder and a vacuum. Start by turning off the power from the circuit breakers, and vacuum the cover if required. Remove the vent cover and wash it. Follow this by removing the motor assembly unit. Clean the motor assembly thoroughly with a microfibre cloth and a soft-bristled brush. Finally, clean the fan housing and reinstall the motor and vent cover.
-
The standard size of a bathroom exhaust fan is measured in CFM or cubic feet per minute. This is the fan’s ability to move air throughout the room. If you have a bigger bathroom, you would require an exhaust fan with a higher CFM rating, and similarly, for a smaller bathroom, a lower CFM rating would be fine. If you want to figure out the right exhaust fan size for the bathroom, first, calculate the area of the bathroom. This is done by multiplying the height, length and width of your bathroom. After you have an idea about the size of the bathroom, you can calculate the minimum CFM rating that your exhaust fan should have. The simple formula for this is – Bathroom Size x 0.13 = Minimum CFM Rating Alternatively, give us a call and we can assess and install the fan for you.
-
Bathrooms are notoriously known to be wet and damp places, therefore it can usually be more prone to developing mould or decay due to lack of ventilation. This can cause a range of unhealthy bacterias to be living in your bathroom, and as such making it an unsafe place to be. This can also damage paint and tiling in the bathroom, therefore making a ceiling fan an essential piece of ventilation in the bathroom.
